About The Guide

I don’t remember most of the gifts I got for Christmas growing up.

I don’t remember what toys I got for my 8th birthday, or which outfits I paid too much for at the mall, or the stuff I’m sure I felt like I just had to have in the moment.

What I do remember: the road trips we took to unexpected places, the unique things we saw, and the quality time we spent together as a family. To me, those are the memories that last.

Even though my family didn’t take a lot of “big” vacations, I fondly remember hiking up creek beds on hot summer days just to find the prettiest rocks. I remember building backyard forts out of scrap wood, feeding carrots to the neighbor horses, laying pennies on train tracks, and making rainbows with the mist of the garden hose.

Maybe I’m easily amused, but to me those adventures were just as good as a fancy hotel sleep-away. Maybe even better because there was no stress or hurry attached, only a sense of discovery and fun.

Small adventures like these are all around, every day, if we choose to see them.

That’s what this blog is all about. My goal in 2023 is to have at least one small adventure a week…see something new, do something different, and not wait for the “big” moments to make a memory.

I’ll share all 52 weeks with you here on the blog. I hope you enjoy reading about these small adventures, and I hope you’ll find inspiration to go find one (or more!) of your own.
