Why Is The Bob Dylan Center in Tulsa?(And Will You Enjoy It If You’re Not Already a Dylan Fan?)
Now, before I get the hardcore Dylan fans up in arms, let me start by saying I’m not NOT a Bob Dylan fan. I just didn’t know much about the man or the music before visiting the museum. That’s honestly why it took so long for me to finally visit a place that people have come from all over the world to see, and to experience what is objectively a very big deal in the music world. Could I really enjoy a place “dedicated to the study and appreciation of renowned American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan and his cultural significance” if his music had no significance for me? For context, and…

A Visit to the Wild Mustangs of Eastern Oklahoma
There are few things more peaceful to me than a relaxing drive out of the city to get into nature and out of my head. One of my favorite destinations is just outside of town, where I go to see the wild mustangs of Eastern Oklahoma. The herd of approximately 2,000 horses can be seen by travelers on the Creek Turnpike east of Tulsa, but I much prefer the slower drive on surface streets where I can enjoy the scenery at a more leisurely pace. The wild mustang preserve covers hundreds of rolling acres over several miles, and while the land itself is private property, with so little traffic it’s…

Attention Rockhounds: Check Out the DW Correll Museum on Route 66
When brainstorming with Dan about where our next small adventure should be, he said the magic words that pretty much sum up the mission of this blog: “You know, there’s this one place…I’ve driven by it a lot and wondered what was inside.” Ding-ding-ding, we have a winner! And that’s how we arrived at the DW Correll Museum on Route 66 in Catoosa. Actually, it’s the DW Correll Museums, plural. Within the two buildings onsite, there are multiple extensive collections ranging from classic cars, to vintage toys, to Jim Beam decanters, to arrowheads, to old newspaper clippings, to seashells, to rocks and minerals. From my quick online search ahead of…

Branches, Buttons, & Bootleggers: A Tour of the Tulsa Cave House
I have driven by the Tulsa Cave House my whole life, and always wondered about the story behind such a unique building. Was it a home, or a restaurant, or possibly a club of some kind? Turns out…it has been all of those things and more during its long life, and I got to hear about the house’s colorful history during my recent tour. Tours for the Tulsa Cave House are by appointment only, and I booked ours on Dan’s birthday as a fun small adventure to a place neither of us had been before. Tours are scheduled by phone with the house’s owner, Linda, who asked how many would…

Gorgeous Weather for a New Year’s Hike at the Ray Harral Nature Park
What better way to start 2023 than with some gorgeous weather and a New Year’s hike? What’s even better? Finding a new (to me) nature park just 20 minutes from home! I hadn’t heard about the Ray Harral Nature Park in Broken Arrow before visiting last weekend, so I wasn’t sure exactly what the day would hold. I hoped that we’d find some pretty trails for our hike, that the park would be safe and clean, and that we might find some signs of wildlife along the way. One thing I was certain of: the weather was too nice to stay indoors, so we decided to try something new and…
